The Greatest Priority

Lets be honest here, what is your greatest priority in life?.Take a minute to answer that before you continue reading the rest of the article . Did I hear, career, relationships, spouse, children, bank account ,food and so on…We all have things that we prioritize the most in our lives. Its our nature as human beings to indulge our flesh and ensure that it is satisfied. That’s why we work hard to ensure that our comforts and pleasures are satisfied. We spend our lives trying to meet the right people, get the right jobs, wear good clothes and even attend the right functions in order to entertain our flesh. In addition to that, we meticulously strive to be prosperous because that is what being blessed means to us.Basically our lives are spent trying to satisfy our flesh and reaching expectations that sometimes cannot be achieved. All our energy is focused chasing all these and the little energy that is left is what we use to focus to God.

In Mathew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Its simple and profound that we should put God first.God should be our first priority.Imagine all you have to do is put God first and everything else will be added unto you. However, most of the times we find ourselves putting everything else first and giving God the last bit of our energy. We read the Bible when it’s necessary , pray when we remember ,seek God when we are desperate, go to church when we need to catch up with friends and so on.I am giving those examples because am sure most people can relate. Our flesh rules us, instead of our minds. Our flesh is subject to our mind, and our mind should be subject to God.The question here is, who is your mind subject to? is it subject to God ,the flesh or the world?.The mind speaks to the flesh and as christians we should develop the mind of Christ because it prioritizes God first. In 1 Corinthians 2;16 ” for,“Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?”But we have the mind of Christ.”.By having the mind of Christ, that means we think from God’s point of view instead of the worlds point of view.It also means that our minds are lead by the spirit of God rather than the flesh. Our flesh is very strong and it fights against the mind. Galatians 5- 16-17 ” 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.” It goes ahead to explain what the flesh wants from verse 19 to 21 ” 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Your flesh leads you to sin but if you have the mind of Christ, your flesh becomes subject to your mind which means that our will is to do the will of God.If we give allegiance to the wants , ambitions, desires and needs of the flesh ,we will never be satisfied. The flesh will never be satisfied.

Don’ t let the desires, problems, addictions and pleasure of the flesh control your life, instead have the mind of Christ.Pursue God first before everything else.God is more important and bigger than everything you have in your life. Don’t play ” God” in your life, Let Him be the ultimate guide of your life.God’s plan for you is aligned with your purpose. How then do you receive the mind of Christ? 1 Corinthians 2:10-12 “these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.” The mind of Christ is given to us through the Holy Spirit. When you are not born again, your spirit is dead inside. When you receive God in your life, the spirit of God dwells in you.As a Christian you should yield to the Holy spirit and let it transform your life.Romans 8: 9 “9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.”.So, put your priorities in order and seek God First.Seeking God first means that you allow God into your life.We do not have enough power, knowledge and wisdom to rule our lives.Throughout history, its clear that humans cant rule themselves but God will never fail. One thing I have realized is that all we seek in this life ;money, power, relationships, pleasures and desires are all futile and will all come to an end when we die but what we find in God is everlasting. It does not end.We are fully complete in God.Therefore, Seek Him first before everything else.Seek Him before that job, before that ambition before that university, before that spouse, before the wealth …and all these things will be given to you as well.
